This is a rare May 1990 playbill from the Original Off-Broadway production and WORLD PREMIERE engagement of the LYNN AHRENS and STEPHEN FLAHERTY musical "ONCE ON THIS ISLAND" at Playwrights Horizons in New York City. (The production originated at the Off-Broadway Playwrights Horizons, opening on May 6th, 1990 and played 24 performances. The show would open October 18th, 1990 at New York's Booth Theatre and run for 469 performances.) ..... The ensemble cast included JERRY DIXON, ANDREA FRIERSON, SHEILA GIBBS, LA CHANZE, KECIA LEWIS-EVANS, GERRY McINTYRE, AFI McCLENDON, MILTON CRAIG NEALY, NIKKI RENE, ERIC RILEY and ELLIS E. WILLIAMS ..... CREDITS: Book and Lyrics by LYNN AHRENS ("Ragtime", "My Favorite Year", "Once On This Island", "Seussical the Musical", "The Glorious Ones", "Rocky") based on the novel "My Love, My Love" by ROSA GUY; Music by STEPHEN FLAHERTY ("Ragtime", "My Favorite Year", "Once On This Island", "Seussical the Musical", "The Glorious Ones", "Rocky"); Sets designed by LOY ARCENAS; Costumes designed by JUDY DEARING; Directed and Choreographed by GRACIELA DANIELE; Produced by PLAYWRIGHTS HORIZONS ..... DETAILS: The 108 page playbill measures 5 1/2" X 8 1/2" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the actors and members of the creative team, but no cast photos. Also includes an insert with a note from the authors (shown in the last scanned image) ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light edge wear, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
