Fantastic 22nd NY Regiment Group to John Collison Mansfiled. He served in the Spanish American War as well as WWI, and served our country for 40 years (could be longer) but I have not pulled his official records. He joined as a Private and rose to the rank of 1st Sergeant during the war with Spain. He was then promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, and rose to the rank of Major by 1918, and seemed to have been the Commander of the 27th Division Special Troops for over a decade after the Great War. The last reference I found to his service was in 1937! He may have been a three war Vet - Again, further research needs to be don on this one.... The 22nd New York Regiment Long Service Medal is made of Sterling Silver by Dieges and Clust, is very heavy, and is numbered "105". The engraving on this medal is exceptional. His New York State WWI Service Medal is also numbered. The WWI Service/Victory Medal has a France clasp, but he may have rated more - the ribbon on this medal is literally hanging on by a thread, but this would be an easy replacement if one were inclined to do so.
