USAF UAV CIA Air Force Area 51 Desert Prowler Patch – Collectible

This is one of several patches associated with the Lockheed Martin "Desert Prowler" program, an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) first flown on December 13, 2005. The numerals 9 and 11 also appear on other patches associated with the program. The collection of 5 + 1 stars in the lower left section of the patch refers to the classified flight test center at Groom Lake, suggesting that the UAV underwent flight test at the black site or was tested at another site (such as Lockheed's "Area 6" near Yucca Lake) with support from Groom Lake units.Desert Prowler may be related to a classified UAV operating out of Kandahar, Afghanistan, that began operations around 2007. Aviation journalist Bill Sweetman initially dubbed the aircraft "the Beast of Kandahar" after a French magazine published a blurry image of the unknown vehicle. On December 4, 2009, the aircraft called the RQ-170 Sentinel. The RQ-170 is operated by the 30th Reconnaissance Squadron based at the Tonopah Test Range in Nevada.This brand new patch is 4" in diameter is made of 100% embroidery and features a plastic backing.
