Civil War Store Card for Lot Scott's I-X-L Dairy - Location UnknownFuld LU-R-1a (copper) R-8 NGC MS-64 BN ex Dave Bowers, Fuld Plate token prior to 3rd Edition, and Among Finest KnownMr. Scott acquired store card tokens from Cincinnati token maker John Stanton. A single custom die was used to create four token varieties. This variety is very rare. The other three varieties are all believed to be unique. Lot Scott's location when this token was created is unknown. In the 1860 Census, he resided in Covington, Kentucky. He is also found in an 1866 Nashville directory. Very little is known about his whereabouts in the years between. This rare token is among the finest known for this merchant. As noted on the slab label, this token served as the plate token for the variety in the first two editions of the Fuld store card book where it was listed as a Cincinnati token. Since there is no evidence that Lot Scott resided in Cincinnati when this token was issued, this merchant was moved to the location unknown section in the 3rd edition store card book. This token was slabbed before the 3rd edition store card book, so the old Cincinnati attribution appears on the slab label. As also noted on the slab label, this token was previously in the collection of Dave Bowers. Close inspection of this token reveals that the obverse is double struck with the doubling most evident on the upper half of the token.Shipping via USPS registered and insured mail is free. Should this token fail to meet your expectations, it can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. Sales tax, if applicable, is collected by Ebay and submitted directly to state authorities.
