Offered for sale is a beautiful and rare late 19th-century Imperial Nippon porcelain humidor tobacco jar, dating to the 1890s. This finely crafted piece showcases the exceptional artistry and hand-painting quality for which early Nippon porcelain is highly sought after by collectors. The humidor stands approximately 7.25 inches tall and measures 6 inches wide by 4.25 inches deep. It is finished in a rich brown glazed tone and features raised relief detailing throughout. The front panel is exquisitely hand-painted with a charming scene depicting a Dutch fisherman seated curbside, smoking his pipe, accompanied by his loyal dog, set near a tranquil lake with a sailboat in the background. The painting is detailed, expressive, and beautifully preserved. The lid rim is artistically decorated with hand-painted pipes and tobacco leaves, reinforcing the humidor’s original purpose. Both the lid and the sides display decorative square red motifs along with small sailboat designs, adding visual interest and balance to the overall composition. There is a hairline crack on the inside side wall of the jar A small portion of this hairline is visible on the outer top side No other cracks, chips, or repairs noted Paint remains vibrant and intact Please review all photos carefully, as they are considered part of the description. Imperial Nippon porcelain was produced in Japan during the Meiji Period (circa 1891–1921) and was exported primarily to Europe and the United States. These pieces were entirely hand-painted and often featured European-inspired themes, fine detailing, and raised relief work. Nippon humidor jars were luxury items of their time, commonly displayed in gentlemen’s smoking rooms and parlors, making surviving examples both rare and highly collectible today. Authentic 1890s Imperial Nippon porcelain Hand-painted relief humidor tobacco jar European genre scene with fisherman and dog Pipe and tobacco leaf motifs on lid Decorative sailboat and red square designs Rare antique smoking accessory Please ask any questions before bidding.
