We are offering an original caricature pencil sketch of playwright and husband of Marilyn Monroe, Arthur Miller by world-famous artist Oscar Berger which came out of a large collection from Berger's estate. The sketch is signed "Berger". The sketch is on 14" x 16 1/2" heavy stock paper, which is "tipped in" at the top of a 15" x 22" mount. **CONDITION** - sketch is Very Good; mount has a little bit of edge-chipping (see images) A short biography of Berger follows.**NOTE** - please watch our eBay listings - as we will be adding more Oscar Berger original sketches, some of his negatives, books, photos and many more of Berger's items.Oscar Berger (1901-1997) - was an Austria-Hungarian born American world-famous caricaturist and cartoonist whose work appeared in numerous newspapers and magazines. He also authored and illustrated seven books. After graduating from high school, he moved to Prague where editors of a Berlin newspaper asked him to become its chief staff artist, after which his work began to appear regularly in newspapers across Europe. Berger was present at the Munich trials of 1923 where he drew sketches of the defendants on trial. During WWII in 1940 he was in London during The Blitz, when the first bombings of London began, at which time he sketched Winston Churchill talking with cabinet members of the House of Commons. He remained in England for the remainder of the war, and in 1945 came to San Francisco to cover the League of Nations Conference for the New York Times, sketching numerous world leaders in attendance. In 1955, he became a U.S. citizen. Berger's sketches include world leaders, United Nations Ambassadors, many U. S. Presidents, celebrities, and many other prominent people.
