Samurai Matchlock Storage Box Leather Cover Edo 17th-18th c ZL36

Rare Samurai matchlock gun storage box leather cover decorated with Tokugawa Shogun clan crest were a precious possession of the Samurai warrior and great attention was paid to how to preserve and store it. Wooden lacquered boxes or more simple leather covers were used and manufactured to provide extra protection to swords from external elements, humidity etc. Beutifully made , each cover was marked with gilded Clan of ruling Tokugawa clan crests and leather exterior was covered in lacquer , providing weather and water proofing .
