Grateful Dead’s Tape Machine “Heard”This is the most famous 16 track tape machine in the world. An Ampex AM-1000 custom redesign by Ron Wickersham of Alembic and crew members of the Grateful Dead. I was told by him that it was the 2nd ever sold by Ampex in 1968. It was first owned by Pacific Studios in San Fransisco. He purchased it in 1969 when Pacific could no longer make the payments on it. It has an amazing discography. It went around the globe as part of “the wall of sound” the Dead’s PA system. The wall of sound was the first PA system ever built. It was also constructed by Wickersham and the engineers for the Greatful Dead. “Heard” and “The Wall of Sound” were also actually rented out by the Dead and used by many other bands during the Summer of Love era. Both on tour with the Dead and when the Dead were not using it. It recorded “Gimme Shelter” at Atlamont and many other epic live recordings of bands like Jefferson Airplane, The Stones, Hendrix, Santana and many more. Heard recorded the Dead’s first four records! There are many more such historical facts and stories about the life of this one of kind piece of rock and roll history. It still works great and is the best sounding tape machine I have ever used or listened to by far. Just listen to any album it made during its time at Pacific or in the Dead’s recording studio in Haight-Ashbury. It recorded the music written by them at 710 Ashbury Street in San Francisco. You will understand what I am saying here. The sound that comes out of Heard is simply glued to your face. Remarkable magnetic tape compression effect and unmatched presence. It is time for someone else to own Heard. since I have owned Heard since 1992. Only serious offers and correspondence will be considered. ……However, this listing is for a 1$ picture(s) of “Heard” only and pictures of some of the designating features of this item for review. I will also include further information…….Simply purchase the picture and I will send these USPS letter to you along with further information. Sincerely, Jime
