SSSikh Rulers of Cis-Sutlej States: Patiala State. Silver Rupee. Ruler Maharaja Ajit Singh (1813 to 1815 AD). Mint Sahrand. (On nearly all coins of Cis-Sutlej states, except those of Jind state, the mint name was always written as SAHRAND instead of Sirhind). Weight of the coin is 11.13 gm and the diameter is between 17 - 18mm.Except for a few coins with the Gobindshahi couplet on the obverse minted in later years for ceremonial purposes only, all coins of Cis-Sutlej States have a couplet attributing the coins to Ahmed Shah Abdalli , the Durrani invader, who invaded India 8 times between 1748 and 1767 AD and was finally pushed back to Afghanistan by the Sikhs in 1767 AD. In 1765 AD, Ahmed Shah Durrani gave the right to Ala Singh, the founder of Patiala State, to mint coins in the name of Ahmed Shah Durrani.Obverse: Couplet attributing the coin to Ahmed Shah AbdalliReverse: Arabic “Su’ad” within the “Seen” of “Julus”, distinct identity of coins of all Cis-Sutlej states. Symbol of a long sword on the left of "Seen" of "Julus" on the reverse, that gives a distinct identity to coins of Ajit Singh.. Excellent details on both sides of the coin. A beautiful specimen. A similar piece was sold for $220.00 plus commission in Stephen Album Rare Coins auction .An excellent acquisition for collectors of coins of Princely States of India under British Empire.
