Great dug relic: a complete brass shoulder scale / epaulette dug at Fort Fillmore New Mexico. The long brass shoulder strap on the reverse has been glued back on, and there is some visible clear glue on the back side that appears to have been added to reinforce the pieces. The epaulette has also been cleaned, but overall is in good condition. These are VERY hard to come by in complete form when dug as relics - they are usually all busted into small pieces. Fort Fillmore was in use from 1851 to 1861 and was garrisoned by companies of Dragoons and Mounted Riflemen during that time. It played an important role in the Apache Wars, and was also occupied by Texas Confederates for a brief period at the beginning of the Civil War in 1861.
