Listing details

A beautiful antique V&B Mettlach 1 liter beer stein in very nice condition for it's age. Measures 8.25" tall and almost 10" tall with the pewter decorative figurine/thumb depressor. Measures almost 5" in width and has a depth of 7". Total weight is 3 lbs. ounces. Produced in Mettlach Germany. The design features an Egyptian theme with heiroglyphic-like imagery depicting scenes of domestic life in ancient Egypt. The model was designed around 1900 by Fritz Quidenus. The marking on the base is . The design is inspired by the poem "Altassyrisch" [Old Assyrian] by Josef Victor von Scheffel. The material is stoneware with a pewter lid. There are a few small condition issues. There is a very small chip on the ceramic by the pewter lid rim. On the cream, blue and red border, there is a small crack in one of the cream tiles. Another cream tile has a small scratch. There is slight wear on the blue tile just below the handle. Other wear is consistent with it's age. Please see all photos as they are part of the description.
