Japanese Wooden Bato Kannon Bodhisattva Statue Buddhist Zushi Shrine WB203 This is a Japanese wooden statue of Bato Kannon (Horse-Headed Bodhisattva), beautifully hand-carved and polychrome painted, enshrined in a small wooden Buddhist zushi (portable altar). Bato Kannon, one of the manifestations of Avalokiteshvara, is revered as a protector of horses and travelers. The piece expresses traditional Japanese Buddhist artistry in its serene facial expression and detailed carving.
