1940 WALLACE ENGLAND SILVER ON COPPER HAND CHASED EMBOSSED TEA COFFEE SET 5 PC WALLACE BROS SILVER COMPANY - Wallingford CTCo-partnership for the manufacture of silverplated flatware and holloware formed in 1875 by Robert Wallace with his sons Robert B., William J., Henry L., George H., Frank A. and sons-in-law W.J. Leavenworth and D.E. Morris. The manufacture of holloware ceased in 1986. In 1879 the corporation of R.Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co acquired and took over the business and goodwill of Wallace Brothers.Stunning set produced as part of a collaborative or transatlantic manufacturing process—an approach not typical for Wallace, but occasionally seen, especially during the mid-20th century. The set shows no dents, monograms, breaks, or repairs. Hinges and handles (solid ebony) are strong, with original celluloid finials secured by round nuts. All interiors are clean, free of corrosion or buildup, and retain most of their original finishes. The exterior boasts a substantial, bright mirrored surface with impeccable detail in the hand-chased embossing and solid applied castings. Minor signs of wear and use are present.
