Plaques like this were meant to spot weld onto the rear bumper of a car . Many were done for car clubs and promotedtheir name . LOWRIDERS , San Francisco Knights , Loan Riders , LA Cruisers and hundreds more . Most of this Car Culture began in Southern California and spread quickly across the country . Cars were personalized by their ownersand modified to perform in street-racing . In the East of the US the Moonshine Runners were carrying booze from market to marketin " hopped up " cars . But in Southern California it was meeting at the local drive in hamburger place or Bowling Alley . It was there that all the radios were tuned to the Mighty 1090 XERB and Wolfman Jack at night playing all the songs other stations wouldn't play can find many of these older cast aluminum Car Plaques on ebay . Also you'll find a ton of reproductions . I see A Wolfman JackPlaque listed now that is brand new . It's nicely done . But mine is period correct and is very unique . I've only seen one otherlike this in the last 3 years . It comes from an extensive collection of car plaques kept by a gentleman who passed in the last few years in Southern California the late 1960's a sensational Radio promoter was blasting Rock & Roll / R&B new music into California from a radio stationin Mexico ! US stations were limited as to how much power they could broadcast . No such restrictions in Mexico .... so.... stationslike XERB had their sites set ( and their antennas ) on San Diego, Los Angles and right up the coast cast aluminum sign could have been meant for the building in Tijuana , or signs around town or Jacks car that he drove across and back the Border a hundred times . It seems un-used to me . It is about 8.5 inches X 5 inches . It's not bent or dinged up . This is a piece of Rock history and it's for sale . In my mind it belongs on a Lowrider in the Southern Texas / Southern California area asJack had operated in both markets . I haven't said much about Wolfman ( Robert Weston Smith ) but you need to learn about him book called " Border Radio " Explains everything you need to know . Great guy, great promoter, and a Radio DJ that broughtthe new music to the youth of a country at a critical time . Unfortunately he was used and abused ..... Read about him, he was one in a million . The plaque done in Halloween colors is appropriate for The WOLFMAN !This plate celebrates the man and his amazing impact on the youth and on the music of America . XERB - AM 1090 Mexico .
