Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE CIVIL WAR 1863 General Joseph W. Fisher, Chief Justice of Wyoming Territory, Signed Doc. Joseph Washington Fisher (1814 – 1900): Pennsylvania Lawyer. Pennsylvania House of Representatives 1848-1849. Civil War General at important battles of the Army of the Potomac. Promoted to Colonel 5th PA Reserves after Battle of Glendale. Led 5th PA Reserves at the Battle of Antietam and the Battle of Fredericksburg. The reserves retook the field in 1863 at Gettysburg. Fisher continued in command of his brigade well into 1864. He fought in the Battle of the Wilderness, Battle of Spotsylvania Court House and Battle of Cold Harbor. He later served as colonel of the 195th Pennsylvania Infantry. He received a Brevet promotion to the rank of brigadier general on November 4, 1865. After the war he went back to his law practice and served as Pennsylvania Senator 1867-1868. He later moved to Wyoming where he was the Chief Justice of the territorial courts from 1871 – 1879. Bold signature of “Joseph Fisher” on 1862 army document as Colonel of the 11th Regiment, Penn.
