That said, a Stunning vintage Title Card Before there was Sherlock Holmes, before James Bond there was Honolulu Detective Charlie Chan. Beginning in 1931 with the first Chan film, “Charlie Chan Carries On”. The first Charlie Chan was actor Warner Oland, who made 15 films before his untimely death in 1938. Oland was replaced with Sidney Toler who made 22 Chan films before his death in 1947. Roland Winters would take over for Toler and go on to make six more Chan films for Monogram Studios. None of the typical border tears and heavy pinholes on corners from theater use. *Note: We also have about 100 Other vintage Charlie Chan lobby cards. See them all here in our eBay store * See enlargeable image above Shadows over Chinatown (Monogram, 1946). Title Card (11" X 14"). One of the last films in which star Sidney Toler would appear as author Earl Der Biggers' Charlie Chan, this one is set in San Francisco's Chinatown, as Chan uncovers a vicious insurance scam while searching for a missing girl, aided and abetted by his erstwhile companion and chauffeur, Birmingham Brown (Mantan Moreland). Charlie Chan is back, and this time the plot involves a mystery surrounding murders committed in furtherance of an insurance fraud scheme. Sidney Toler assumed the role of the Chinese detective in 1938 after the death of Warner Oland, who had played Chan since 1931. Toler later purchased the rights to the character, arranging a series of pictures for Monogram beginning in 1944, and would play the detective twice more before his death in 1947. Starring Sidney Toler as Charlie Chan, Mantan Moreland, Victor Sen Yung, Tanis Chandler, John Gallaudet, Paul Bryar, Bruce Kellogg, Mary Gordon, and Dorothy Granger. Directed by Terry O. Morse Sidney Toler stars in another adventure as the master detective Charlie Chan. Toler was the second Chan after Warner Oland's untimely death in 1938 of pneumonia. He would go on to make the most entries in the series becoming perhaps the most popular of the series's stars. *We just acquired a Large Charlie Chan collection including about Ten complete sets. Each card has on the back two pieces of paper (easily removed as it has very light adhesive) identifying the specific lobby card and the Owner’s name and city. I have blocked out the names and city on the digital image only for privacy reasons. It’s pretty nice that they catalogued and identified each card. Note: Cvtreasures stamp Not on original
