Listing details

Genuine vintage AO 5 1/2 American Optical aviator sunglasses with non-prescription smoke gray lenses, gold frame (gold electroplated metal), and bayonet temple arms. AO 5 1/2 American Optical is engraved on the interior side of each temple arm. AO is engraved on the lower surface of the frame crossbar above the lenses. This pair of sunglasses is identical to another previously sold pair that had the original military-issue plastic case, and the case inscription indicates that the glasses were manufactured for DSA contract year 1977. Imprinted on the cover of the original military-issue sunglass case—which is NOT included in this sale, and is mentioned only for reference—was the following: SUNGLASSES, HGU-4/P MIL-S-25948 IMPACT RESISTANT – NOT SAFETY GLASSES AMERICAN OPTICAL CORP DSA100-77-C-0411 This was a reserve (spare) pair of sunglasses that was seldom worn and has been stored away for over forty years. Excellent condition for its age with no visible flaws or damage to the lenses or frame. Please examine accompanying listing photographs for a detailed visual inspection. A complimentary sunglass case (from Costco; nicer than the old military plastic case these sunglasses originally came with) is included for added protection during shipping and for the buyer’s use, if desired.
