DER JUGEND FREUND (1881) six issues of rare German journal for young Christians

Der Jugend Freund This is a 19th century journal for teens, written in German and published in Allentown, Pennsylvania. These issues are very hard to find. This lot includes six monthly issues, all published in 1881. They are printed on a single sheet of paper that unfolds into eight pages. Each page is about 12" by 9", so an unfolded sheet is about 24" by 18". I cannot read German, so I cannot tell you what the articles are about. There does seem to be a definite Christian element to the content (e.g. check the masthead on the front covers). Each issue has some nice b/w illustrations. The issues are in fair to good condition, with occasional creases, spots, and blemishes, and some browning to the pages. There is some wear and some tears around the edges. A couple of the issues have some areas along the "spine" worn away (see the last two scans). The issues are complete, and are still very readable.
