The combined print run was 50,000 copies. A.L. Burt Co. reprinted this numerous times between 1919 and 1927. Joe Lukes' Bibliography of ERB titles published by Grosset & Dunlap identifies 14 G&D reprints from 1927 to 1939. G&D reprinted this at least 3 times as a wartime edition from 1943 -1947. There were then 4 reprintings as “Adventure Stories for Boys” in 1950, 1955, 1958, and 1967. erbfirsts.com is able to distinguish two print runs in 1918 and two in 1919. The title page states either “1918” or “1919”. There is a print defect after the first print run: "The printing plate defect is located on page 170, 2nd line from the bottom, in the word "it", which is missing the dot above the "i" and the "t" is marred above cross bar." The second print run in 1918 and the two runs in 1919 have that defect. The second print run in 1919 is the only run to not have advertisements in the back pages. This book that is for sale has no printing defects on page 170 -- verifying it as an actual first printing. Most sellers will identify all 4 McClurg printings as 1st editions or just identify 2 printings according to the print year. If you pay for an actual first printing, make sure that is what you get. I list several Burroughs books for sale every week. Please check out these other auctions. I will combine shipping costs for multiple wins - use the eBay shopping cart or ask for an invoice before you complete payment.
