This makes the basket stable enough to stand on its own. The last picture shows that the handle is a little crinkled. This is the way Longaberger the handle in the basket with the protector. I am currently hanging this on a hook in the shop trying to get the crinkle out. Since the handle is leather it should be ok. If you want this basket just to sit on a table then you should go look at my other basket that is ok.
