Depiction of life during the Silver Age: scantily clad men plow and sow, and build huts. In the clouds the god Jupiter. In the right foreground the goddess Ceres with a cornucopia. This drawing was made after the 1589 engraving "Zilveren Eeuw" ("The Age of Silver") by Hendrick Goltzius. Josef von Fuehrich (1800 Kratzau/Bohemia - 1876 Vienna) was a renowned Austrian historical painter and one of the best representatives of the Nazarene Art. Together with Koch, Schnorr and Veit he worked (under the supervision of Overbeck) on frescoes at the Villa Massimi in Rome. Fuehrich was professor at the Vienna Academy, teacher and an ongoing inspiration for many Austrian painters. His works can be found at museums worldwide, as well as in churches of Austria, Czech Republic and Hungary. 8th sheet from the album of 20 drawings from the cycle "Ovid's Metamorphoses" - copy after the engraving "The Age of Silver" by Hendrick Goltzius. One of the earliest works by Josef von Fuehrich (1800-1876). **The authenticity of this work was confirmed in 1993 by the late Dr. Bernhard Rittinger, Fuehrich expert from Vienna, who himself owned one drawing from this album. ***Literature: Heinrich von Wörndle "Josef Fuehrich's Werke", Wien 1914, Page 20, Nr.104 (desribed as "made ca 1820").
