Vintage Korean Celadon Incised Crane & Cloud Signed Porcelain Bud Vases ~ Set of 2 ~ One Meiping (English: "prunus vase") and the 2nd reversed Description: This pair is not only incredibly beautiful, it's also incredibly RARE! Locating either would be a challenge, but together, and in pristine condition is truly a find. The concentric circle medallion with a crane in flight between clouds is repeated three (3) times around the perimeter of both vases. Above the medallions are two bands with graphics between them. The lower bulb (reversed) vase has a single band toward the base, while the upper bulb's (Prunus) physical profile allows more visible space and thus has two bands with a sequence of arches between. Interesting facts:Meiping style of Chinese pottery vases was inspired by the shape of a young female body. The meiping was often a tall celadon vase made to resemble human characteristics, especially a small mouth, a short, narrow neck, a plump bosom, and a concave belly. These are reproductions of 12th Century Goryeo porcelain of the Maebyeong style. The Goryeo Dynasty aristocracy ruled Korea from 918 until 1392 and was known for its taste in luxury and refinement. In time, it became known as "Korea's age of enlightenment".Condition: Pristine, MINT in every manner. There are NO chips, nicks, crazing, scuffs, scratches, stains, repairs, water / mineral marks, discoloration or any other cosmetic issues. Even the rough exposed porcelain base rings that normally show some scuffing and/or discoloration remain clean. Although obviously a matched set, only the meiping (prunus vase) is signed with the red & black bottomstamp. See images 8, 9 and 10. Note that the meiping vase does not have quite the graphic contrast that the 2nd, reversed vase exhibits. (See image 1) Measures: Upper bulb: 3-3/4" max belly diameter x 6-1/2" high w/ 1-5/8" dia rim and 2-5/8" dia baseLower bulb: 3-7/8" max belly diameter x 6-7/8" high w/ 1-7/8" dia rim and 2" dia base Weighs: 1 lb 1.8 oz upper bulb & 14.9 oz lower bulb (2 lb 0.7 oz for the pair plus packaging) Notes: Unless NIB, factory sealed or otherwise impractical, all items are washed and sanitized prior to photographyImages are an integral part of the description.
