A5 Booklet in Very Good Condition signed by John Julius top right corner Happy Christmas, cover has some spot marksJohn Julius Cooper, 2nd Viscount Norwich, 1929 – 2018 known as John Julius Norwich, was an English popular historian, travel writer, and television personality. He compiled his first Christmas Cracker in 1969, gathering together the favourite things he had come across in the preceding 365 days into one short and charming pamphlet. It was initially a treat for his friends but soon turned into a huge word of mouth success and the publication became as essential a part of the English Christmas experience as holly and mistletoe.Entries came from letters, diaries, gravestones, poems old and new, indexes from biographies, word games such as palindromes, holorhymes and mnemonics, occasionally in untranslated Greek, French, Latin, German, or whatever language they were sourced from, as well as such oddities as a review from the American outdoors magazine Field and Stream concerning the republication of Lady Chatterley's Lover. His final and 49th Christmas Cracker was put together during the early part of 2018 and he corrected the final proofs from his hospital bed; he died on 1 June 2018..
