The Isles of Shoals: An Historical Sketch. By John Scribner Jenness and published in New York by Hurd and Houghton. 1873, 182 pp, 5x7’’, hardcover binding. In fair condition. Covers and spine have age-related wear and toning, and tearing along the edges. Some pen and pencil inscriptions from previous owners, dating 1873-1960. Pages have age-related toning and foxing. Hinges are worn and looser in some areas, but pages remain attached and generally have good support throughout. Illustrations have some toning and foxing, but are otherwise in good condition and clear to see. There are pen inscriptions throughout the book, and an additional, detached page of writing pertaining to the subject of the islands from a previous owner, as pictured. Please see photographs and ask any questions you have prior to purchasing. The Isles of Shoals is a collection of islands slightly off the coast of the Northeast United States, on the border of Maine and New Hampshire. They have been occupied for more than four hundred years by fishing communities and recently, private homes and a seasonal hotel. Any issues with binding or hinges due to age and wear could provide an excellent opportunity for restoration or rebinding, if desired. FORN-ABE-MSB-Shelf-668-jr572
