Choice Very Fine Roman Empire AE As coin. Struck for Emperor Marcus Aurelius at the Rome Mint. Dated TR POT XXXIX = Dec 174 to Autumn 175 CE. RIC 1142 (rated as Scarce), approx. 25mm, 10.94g. Rarely depicted Tiber River God reverse type. Certified by NGC to Ch VF Strike 5/5 Surface 2/5 Smoothing Scratches (not significantly distracting). Obverse: M ANTONINVS AVG TR POT XXIX, laureate head of Emperor facing right. Reverse: IMP VII COS IIII / SC, Tiber, half draped, reclining left on ground, setting right hand on prow of boat, half-seen on left, holding tall reed in left hand and resting left elbow on urn, tilted down to left and issuing water. Tiberinus is a figure in Roman mythology. He was the god of the Tiber River. He was added to the 3,000 rivers (sons of Oceanus and Tethys), as the genius of the Tiber.
