Description:This is a rare, original framed photograph of Major General Enoch Herbert Crowder, a key figure in early 20th-century American military and legal history. The photograph features Crowder in full military uniform, highlighting his esteemed role as the Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Army (1911–1923). Below the image, there is a handwritten dedication and signature by Crowder to General William McChesney, reflecting their personal connection.Provenance:This photograph originates from the estate of General William McChesney in Libertyville, Illinois. The estate suffered fire damage in the 1950s, and this photograph, along with other historical artifacts, was stored in a garage for over 75 years. This piece has not been publicly available until now.Condition – PLEASE READ: • Frame: Significant damage and falling apart. The original frame is very fragile, with splitting wood, loose joints, and deteriorating backing paper. The back also features an original framing sticker from Hobbs & Sutphen, Chicago, but due to wear, much of it is peeling. This frame will need replacement if intended for display. • Photo: The image shows visible wear, including foxing, discoloration, scratches, and minor surface scuffing from decades of storage. There is some fading and marks near the inscription, though the overall image remains identifiable. This is NOT in pristine condition but still retains historical value. • Inscription: Handwritten dedication and signature by Major General Enoch H. Crowder.
