Hundreds of Staffordshire china factories were established in the 18th and 19th centuries but few produced the quality transfer ware and exquisite detail of Davenport. Circa 1830 this collection of six tea service items is a fine example. Pieces include a teapot, creamer and two handleless cups with saucers. The black and white pattern is Chinese Pastimes and the maker’s name and marks are on each piece. The largest piece is the teapot (about 5 ½ x 11 ¾ in. and 8 in. tall); cups are about 3 in. across and around 2 ½ high). Condition is very good considering the passage of time (teapot has minuscule chip off spout, two minor tight lines on the bottom; one cup has two tight lines, saucer has minor rim chip). A superb shelf display.
