The case is heavy-duty plastic with a clear plastic cover. The inside of the tray contains a layer of either polystyrene, polyurethane or polyethylene foam for tool bit stability. Many tool-bit mandrels/shanks will easily punch through these foams. Shorter mandrels/shanks can sit on top of the foam for easy removal. However, if a mandrel does not easily puncture the foam, use anything sharp (e.g., a drill bit) and pre-puncture a hole in the foam. A typical Dremel® Rotary Tool mandrel/shank is 1/8in or 3.175mm in diameter. However, there are a variety of tool bit diameters: [0.125" (1/8")3.0–3.2mm;.094" (3/32")2.4–2.5mm; " (1/16")1.5–1.6mm;.031" (1/32")0.8–1.0mm]. The mandrels/shanks also can vary from 1 to 3 inches in length (or longer). The foam interior allows users to press a mandrel/shank down as far as they want. Smaller mandrels/shanks can therefore be maintained at heights that are easy to see and extract. [See pictures.] Many tool bits have a head on top that is wider than the mandrel/shank. These will comfortably “float” on the foam layer or you can push the tool bit down until it stops. NOTE: You are purchasing the Storage Case ONLY! No accessory mandrels/shanks/bits are included.
