USD 488.00
Excellent antique condition, there are a few very minor scrapes, pocks, and small rub marks here and there [see all pics and use zoom] which is to be expected for a 100+ year old piece. No repairs or cracks, very stable and solid, beautiful patina. Not stained or yellowed. One back corner of his pedestal is shallowly chipped. There is a small hole along the back edge of pedestal where a hanging wire once was, wire is no longer there. See details and read all info below. A magnificent collectible, extremely rare. Fantastic example of European plaster casting most likely from Italy. Felt on underside to protect tabletop surfaces.

Antique PLASTER CAST SCULPTURE Life Sized MALE HUMAN FOOT 1920s European Art 10" long x 6.25" high x 4" wideA magnificent collectible, extremely rare. Fantastic example of European plaster casting most likely from Italy. These pieces were made from casts of actual Italian or Greek statues of Antiquity- gladiators, emperors, etc. - Sometimes these statues were sold off in pieces to wealthy travelers on 'Grand Tours' in the 1800s and casts were later made from those fragments. Plaster casts like this are fascinating mementos from an age gone by.This particular sculpture is most likely a replica of the foot of the Emperor Constantine, or possibly the foot of a statue of Hercules. A larger statue of Constantine was known as the Colossus Of Constantine and dates to about the year AD 315 [currently on display in the Musei Capitolini in Rome]. Excellent antique condition, there are a few very minor scrapes, pocks, and small rub marks here and there [see all pics and use zoom] which is to be expected for a 100+ year old piece. No repairs or cracks, very stable and solid, beautiful patina. Not stained or yellowed. The original smooth finished plaster topcoat is still very much intact. One back corner of his pedestal is shallowly chipped. There is a small hole along the back edge of pedestal where a hanging wire once was, wire is no longer there [no chips or damage around hole]. Felt on underside to protect tabletop surfaces. See all pics and use zoom. This piece was purchased at a barn sale where it was literally stashed in the rafters and dusted off before sale.
