Scott # 1055b, the 2c Jefferson Coil, Tagged, had previously been known, mint, only in the SMALL HOLE format. However, someone with sharp eyes discovered that a FIRST DAY COVER of that issue had a strip of 3 of the LARGE HOLE variety. AS it turned out, I had a few of these on my shelf -- in various configurations -- and they were all the LARGE HOLE variety. I'll need more input, but I believe that all the FDCs are of the LARGE HOLE variety, and that this variety ONLY exists on the FDCs. No mint copies are available. This is a complex situation, and I'm trying to piece together some info about this.... and since this issue is now 50 years old, I may never know the exact whys and hows.... So herein is offered a LINE STRIP OF 4 (1st class rate was 6c at that time), 1055b, LARGE HOLE variety. I HAVE AN APS CERTIFICATE, but it's not included as part of the auction lot. Computer scans often show darker or lighter areas which aren't on the actual item, and the larger the object to be scanned, the more areas will be affected. Plus, I scan using a "cover sheet" to hold the item in place, and the plastic cover sheet can create glare. ALWAYS GO WITH THE DESCRIPTION!
