Listing details

I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York ........ This is a rare April 4th, 1955 "On Stage" playbill from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the cult favorite GUY BOLTON, SAMMY FAIN and DAN SHAPIRO musical comedy "ANKLES AWEIGH" at the Shubert Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (The production would open April 18th, 1955 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre in New York City and run for 176 performances.) ..... The musical starred BETTY and JANE KEAN and featured MARK DAWSON, LEW PARKER, GABRIEL DELL, MIKE KELLIN, THELMA CARPENTER and BETTY GEORGE ..... CREDITS: Book by GUY BOLTON and EDDIE DAVIS; Music by SAMMY FAIN ("Hellzapoppin", "Sons o' Fun", "Alive and Kicking", "Flahooley", "Christine", "Something More!"); Lyrics by DAN SHAPIRO ("Follow the Girls"); Sets designed by GEORGE JENKINS; Costumes designed by MILES WHITE; Choreographed by TONY CHARMOLI; Directed by FRED F. FINKLEHOFFE; Produced by HOWARD HOYT, REGINALD HAMMERSTEIN and FRED F. FINKLEHOFFE ..... DETAILS: The 16 page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers, bios of each of the leading actors and wonderful vintage advertising, but no cast photos. Includes a full page ad for the Pre-Broadway tryout of the Richard Adler, Jerry Ross and Bob Fosse musical "DAMN YANKEES" starring GWEN VERDON at Boston's Shubert Theatre (last scanned image) ..... CONDITION: This rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
