I've been a coin collector ever since I was perhaps 5 years old. I'm getting on in the years so it's time to start divesting. Most of my auctions that you will see are items that I've held for decades. I'm starting to get into some of my favorites as I continue to list to divest my collection. I was able to pick these up a couple of years ago and they are somewhat rare since they were not sold to the public directly from the mint, (only to dealers). These half ounce coins are a favorite of mine for the quality and appearance but also the
size and rarity. These are one of my favorite sovereign coins. Following is some more information about the coins directly copied from the Royal Canadian Mint's website:This hawk is usually best identified by its brick-red tail, but take care, there are many colour variations.Plus, the hawk’s short, wide tail can appear almosttransparent when viewed from below, and juveniles have darker colouring. The red-tailed hawk hunts small animals and reptiles from above, sometimes swooping down on birds. One of its greatest strengths is its ability to adapt and exploitrapidly changing environments. Red-tailed hawks can be seen perched on fence posts, trees and hydro poles bordering agricultural fields where they survey the landscape for a meal— an ecological form of rodent control that farmers now readily embrace. Those who have never seen a red-tail will certainly have heard its call. Its high-pitched kree-eee-ar has long been an iconic sound in Western and adventure movies, although the sound is usually paired with a different species (the bald eagle) on-screen.Special FeaturesTwo unique features for cutting-edge security, including precise radial lines and a micro-engraved lasered maple leaf in the coin’s field. In the centre of this mark, visible under magnification, is the numeral “21”, denoting the coin’s year of issue.Features the distinctive bullion finish of brilliant relief on a lined textured background. An attractive acquisition for both first-time precious metal buyers and long-term investors.A striking addition to any Canadiana or animal-themed collection. No fixed mintage.
