Towle Vintage Silver Plate 1964 El Grandee 5-Pc Coffee & Tea SetTowle Silver Company manufactured one of its most ornate patterns for its historic catalogue in 1964. It was in the middle of the great consumer era of Victorian Revival-designed flatware and hollowware. Towle introduced its sterling silver El Grandee pattern in that year, and then enhanced the flatware launch with substantially heavy, ornate and beautiful El Grandee silver plate tabletop pieces. From an estate collection, this five-piece Towle El Grandee set includes a coffee pot, teapot, creamer and covered sugar bowl. The set, on inspection, is in very good vintage condition with no interior stains, dents or scratches. The set’s storage, though, created some light pitting on the under belly of the coffee pot and some other random spots, and the underside of the sugar lid’s silver plate has been discolored. These issues can be seen at close inspection (Yes! We are thorough in cleaning, polishing and finding any and all sizes of issues on antique and vintage silver plate pieces, accepting and rejecting tabletop finds for possible inclusion in our listings), with none of the small areas of discoloration compromising the service this set is offering. It is, indeed, an impressive and commanding coffee and tea service.
