A large antique wooden foundry cog wheel pattern, originally used in the traditional sand-casting process to produce heavy steel gears. This example measures approximately 18 inches in diameter and 3 inches wide, with sharply defined teeth and robust cross-braced spokes that demonstrate the precision required for accurate moulding. Each pattern like this would have been pressed into fine casting sand to create a cavity for molten metal, which would take the exact shape of the wooden form. Once cooled, the resulting gear was removed and machined to its final finish. Such patterns were essential components of industrial manufacturing from the late 19th through the mid-20th century, when skilled patternmakers produced them entirely by hand before the widespread use of metal and resin models. This piece bears the stamped marking SG5929A and 43T, likely identifying its production reference and number of teeth. It dates from around the 1930s to 1950s and has developed a rich, warm patina over time, reflecting both use and craftsmanship. With its crisp geometry and sculptural quality, it stands as an impressive relic of England’s industrial heritage—ideal as a decorative or statement piece in an interior setting. Due to its
