Original WWII Japanese Army Officer Sword Koshirae (Shin-Gunto) — Leather Covered Scabbard, 1-Hanger Type — with Wooden “Takemitsu” Blade This listing is for an original Japanese Army officer’s Shin-Gunto sword koshirae from WWII, complete with its leather-covered scabbard and a wooden practice blade (“Takemitsu”) fitted inside. The exterior components—tsuka, tsuba, fuchi/kashira, samegawa ray skin, menuki, and leather-covered saya—are all standard military-issue Type 98 fittings. 🔻 Features • Type 98 Army officer sword koshirae • Leather-covered saya with one hanger ring • Leather retention flap with working metal snap • Standard brown silk tsuka-ito (handle wrap) • Samegawa ray-skin panels under the wrap • Brass tsuba with cherry-blossom motif • Wood blade (Takemitsu) inside the koshirae 🔻 About the Wooden Blade (Takemitsu) The blade is a non-edged wooden insert used to maintain the interior shape of the koshirae or as a safe training blade. • Tip is cut diagonally • Slightly narrower than the habaki area → causes minor looseness when drawn (as shown) 📏 Measurements • Total length in scabbard: approx. 98 cm • Length when drawn (koshirae + wooden blade): approx. 94 cm 🔻 Condition Overall a good-condition WWII koshirae set. • Leather scabbard shows typical age wear but no major damage • Tsuka-ito has a few small frayed areas (see photos) • Metal fittings show normal patina • Wooden blade is clean with no cracks • Retention snap functions properly Sword stand shown in the photos is for display only and is NOT included.
