Free Domestic Shipping. This is an original envelope (it's real deal--this is NOT a reproduction) that once contained a now-gone letter. It was taken to the post office by the writer and mailed through the United States Postal Services' mail. It is a "stampless cover." You are purchasing only the postal portion. I do not have the letter. ONE of the reasons it is collectible is because of the fact that the local postmaster applied postal markings considered appropriate for the letter's journey. In addition to being collectable because of the town or origin, the addressee, or something else that may appeal to you, it is a collectable item of "postal history" because of the rates, markings and usage. A black "ROCHESTER N.Y. JAN 30 1858" circular datestamp with THREE strikes of a circle "PAID" with both manuscript and black "10" and "UNITED STATES" in red on an envelope addressed to "Miss Sophia M. Joy, Dunnville, C. W." Very nice Cross-Border to Dunnville via Paris w/Backstamps & "UNITED STATES". On the reverse "PARIS JU 21 58" in black and "DUNNVILLE JU22 1858" also in black. Opened at the right edge. Two peelable hinge remnants from old-style mounting on the flap. Very scarce and desirable markings and usage. This item is from the collection of Calvet Hahn and is accompanied by his original album notes. Mr. Hahn's collection is very fresh to the market. Most of his items, including this one, have not been offered for sale for 35-50 years. Many of the items are "listing" and/or "recording" items according to his album notes. Free Domestic Shipping. Terms and Conditions: FREE United States of America Postal Service FIRST CLASS MAIL SHIPPING to the United States. Uninsured International, including Canada, shipments are $5.00. I prefer PayPal. If you wish to pay by any other means, please message me before the auction at and ask permission, which will not be unreasonably withheld.
