For your consideration is a rare and significant 2024 Bahamas 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Commemorative Quarter (25-cent) Coin, in brilliant uncirculated (BU) mint condition. This exceptional coin celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Central Bank of The Bahamas, featuring a first-of-its-kind painted circulation coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint.Numista has classified this coin as extremely rare (75/100), highlighting its scarcity despite being legal tender intended for general circulation. However, only a limited number have actually been released, making them difficult to obtain. Additionally, Bahamian currency is restricted, meaning visitors cannot take more than $200 in Bahamian currency out of the country, further increasing its exclusivity. This brilliant uncirculated coin comes from an original government packaging (OGP) or original bank packaging (OBP) roll, which was part of a sealed monster box of 50 rolls produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. The coin has never been in circulation and has been preserved in pristine mint condition.Officially released into circulation on June 3, 2024, the new quarter maintains the general
specifications of the existing 25-cent coin but introduces a unique painted design, making it the first-ever painted circulation coin issued by the Central Bank of The Bahamas. The coin is round, weighs 5.10 grams, and measures 24.26 mm in diameter and 1.78 mm in thickness, with a milled edge. The obverse features the Coat of Arms of The Bahamas, encircled by the words “Commonwealth of The Bahamas.” Key elements, including the blue marlin, flamingo, and conch shell, are painted in blue, white, pink, and green, creating a visually striking design. The reverse showcases an artist’s rendering of a native Bahamian sloop, depicted in red, white, and brown paint, sailing through a painted blue sea near an island. The inscriptions “The Central Bank of The Bahamas,” “50th Anniversary 1974-2024,” and “25 Cents” complete the design. Each coin will be securely shipped in a 2.0" x 2.0" protective paper coin flip with a transparent plastic window, ensuring safe storage and long-term preservation. On October 29, 2024, the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) honored the 2024 Bahamas 25-cent coin with the prestigious title of Best New Commemorative/Limited Circulation Coin at the Coin Conference in Lisbon, Portugal. This award recognized the historical significance of this coin as the first circulation coin ever painted on both sides, a pioneering achievement by the Royal Canadian Mint, with a limited mintage of only three million pieces. The circulation coin industry continues to celebrate the Central Bank of The Bahamas' strategic introduction of this commemorative coin. Deputy Governor Derek Rolle emphasized that the Bank’s objective was to create a widely accessible yet uniquely collectible coin. Saverino Spangnolo, International Sales Manager for the Royal Canadian Mint, praised The Bahamas for challenging the Mint to develop something new and innovative, resulting in the first-ever painted Coat of Arms on a circulation coin. This highly collectible and historically significant commemorative quarter marks a major milestone in numismatic history. As a limited-mintage release, it is a must-have for collectors of rare coins, commemorative currency, and Bahamian numismatics. With its unique design, award-winning innovation, and exceptional rarity, this stunning 50th Anniversary coin is an outstanding investment and a distinguished addition to any collection.
