This is late 19th century prosthetic eye from Lauscha Germany. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or defects. The iris
color is brown. The globe is larger than average with a diameter of 24.5 mm and the length of 39.5 mm. The full globe prosthetic was used in the 1800's to fill the entire eye socket after the enucleation of an eye. After the turn of the century, implants were invented to occupy the posterior portion of the eye socket and the prosthetic eyes were then designed in a shell shape to occupy the anterior portion of the socket. The implant was attached to the extraocular muscles which allowed some movement of the prosthetic eye on right and left gaze for a more natural look than the full eyeball prosthetic.Promptly and securely shipped via USPS with tracking.
