This detector is a multi frequency detector, but you chose any one of three frequencies to use. Where, on the Legend, you can run them all together, or like here, run with the best single frequency that you select. The Pro treasure hunter will read the ground, and select the correct single frequency. By actually running a single "correct frequency" the detector's digital processor can interpret a much clearer target response, and react much quicker and with less noise and with greater accuracy! So, the trick is "How do I pick the correct single frequency?" It is simple, you manually ground balance with a few pumps over clean metal free ground, and read the small ground balance number on the right. If it shows a low ground reflection rate of 15-40 choose 5 kHz for extreme depth! If you get a reading of 40 to 60 reflection number from the ground conditions will call for a higher frequency of 14 kHz. A 60 to 90 ground reflection reading means you have a highly conductive soil which is best dealt with 19 kHz. Think of the soil as the night time driving conditions; a low reflection number means you have great visibility . . . so you can run your high-beams! A mid-range number means the conditions are not ideal for your bright lights so you go to your dim lights. . . mid-frequency. A high-range ground reflection number, means you are traveling in dense fog or heavy snow! You need your extra low beam fog lights to see into this mess! That is 19 kHz.
