The wood does look like Cherry. The post is in a worn varnish finish worth some scuffs and scratches in the finish. The top handrail end cap is loose. The top cap we didn't see if it came off. Still has a section of the mounting all tread with nut. It is a salvaged piece so expect to find nails, nail holes, and small chunks missing. scuffs and scratches. The post is solid. Overall good solid condition. The bottom is notched. Please look over the pictures and ask questions when needed.
