All of our knife scales are designed and hand made in our shop here in the United States. We make custom knife scales for the custom knives that we design and make. This one is made using paua abalone natural Mother of Pearl laminate. For stability and strength the backing is a G10 layer. These abalone scales are not the cheap China made scales that you see on Etsy and Ebay. These are made from high quality New Zealand Abalone MOP White laminates that has been sandwiched between G10 and clear resin. You can sand to thickness from the back sie and lightly sand/shape from the top side. You can reduce the thickness by about 1/16"" without damaging the abalone. Each scale is approximately +/-1/8" x 3 1/4" x 5 1/2". There is enough laminate for 1 to 2 knives depending on the
size of knives. Ready for shaping and polishing or it can be sanded down for thickness if desired but you must not sand down to the abalone layer. There is not a finish coating on these scales.
