Welcome to my listing for: McLaughlin "Building Material" Missoula, MT 1893 Billhead A.M. Holter (#4) Best effort translation:Gents,Please ship us by freight to Missoula 1800 (lined out, corrected to “pounds”) of hoop iron ¾" wide, about the same as is used for packing shingles. We want it to put around soda cases. You will kindly ship soon as possible and oblige.Yours truly, McLaughlin & Co.P.S. – Trust you have shipped the saws to Missoula we ordered the other day.The Elkhorn Mining Company was founded in 1875 by A.M Holter - a Virginia City pioneer - who also established the A.M. Holter Hardware Co. By 1888, Elkhorn peaked and was home to 2,500 residents and the mine was producing approx. $1,000 a day in mostly silver ore. In 1892, the price of silver dropped drastically and the boom was over for Elkhorn. The mine was closed, then re-opened several times over the next 45-50 years since first closing in 1899 - with fewer and fewer men working it each time it reopened. This piece appears to be just after the 1st price drop - and the company was adjusting and also returning some supplies. Showing only minor signs of age and use. No major issues to note. Will display well in your collection. Eye-catching header typefaces / fonts and legible writing. Overall, in good to very good condition. You will receive the exact sheet seen in the photos.
