He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Virginia Tech. He served in the U.S. Air Force from the 1960s until his retirement in 1981, at the rank of Major. From 1966 to 1970, he served in Vietnam as a navigator on an AC-47 "Spooky" gunship and participated in civil affairs projects. After he retired from the military, he earned a master�s degree in guidance and counseling from Old Dominion University. He later authored a short memoir titled �VIETNAM: Spooky & Civil Affairs: Some Positive Memories.� Vernon Oliver Wooster was born in 1915. He received a bachelor�s degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He joined the U.S. Army Air Force in 1941 as a maintenance officer for USAAF Bombers. Vernon Wooster served for 28 years, mostly as a maintenance squadron commander. Most notably, Wooster was in charge of joint forces inspection teams responsible for nuclear weapons oversight in Europe during the Cold War. After he retired from the Air Force, he worked as a rural mail carrier and a waterman..
